Why Is It Important to Have a Life Vision?

What have you learned about having a vision for your life?

To tell you the truth, up until a few years ago, I thought only businesses needed a vision, not me personally.

But if you think about it, why do businesses have a vision? It’s a foundation for who they are, where they want to be, and where they are going.

A definition of “vision” is: “the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.”

How often do we use our imagination to create something for our future?

How often do we reflect on the wisdom we’ve gained over the years to make different shifts in our lives?

How much time do you spend thinking about the possibilities of the future?

Again, it was only a short few years ago where we were living paycheck to paycheck, stuck in the moment, not really having a vision greater than what I was feeling or experiencing in those moments. Sometimes it felt as if that was all life had to offer.

Why is it important to have a life vision?

A life vision gives us:

Something to work towards. When we create a clear vision, and the why, we tend to make decisions that move us in that direction. Want to let go of a little, extra weight? By creating a vision of what we may look like and feel like three months, six months, even a year down the road may be motivation enough to put down that sweet tea and begin drinking more water!

Fun. When we were little, we had big dreams of becoming astronauts, NBA stars, and famous. As life happens (and reality hits) our dreams tend to fade and life can become all work and no play. A vision brings back our imagination, of what is possible be no matter how silly it may seem. As we begin to dream again—and just be open to all opportunities—some fun begins to emerge and replace “what is” to “what is possible.”

Purpose. If I can be completely honest with you, you have a purpose. If you don’t know what that is, a life vision can help bring that out. What are you good at? What are your values? How do you want to be as an individual, parent, spouse, or wherever your heart lies? When we don’t know our purpose we tend to feel lost, and sometimes even hopeless. A life vision can help us in seeing life differently, even adding a little spark of hope where you may not have seen it before.

What do you think about a life vision now?

What are some things you’d like to see more of in your life? Less of?

Where do you want to be in three months? Six months? A year? 10 years?

As always, however you are feeling today, I want you to know that you are never alone. I encourage you to reach out—if not to me, then to someone!

I believe in you,

Teresa
